Drywall and Ceiling Repair, Start to Finish: A Bothell Entryway
This two-story entry in Bothell had a ragged hole in the vaulted ceiling, high above the front doors. We cut the damage back to solid drywall, set a new piece, taped and mudded it in thin coats, sanded it smooth, primed it, and painted it to match so the repair disappears. Here’s how it went, step by step.
Drywall Repairs We Handle
- Holes and dents: doorknob holes, furniture dings and larger damage, patched and blended in.
- Water-damaged ceilings: once the leak is fixed, we replace soft or stained drywall and seal the stain so it doesn’t bleed through.
- Cracks and nail pops: re-secured, taped and smoothed so they stay gone.
- Patches after other trades: openings left by plumbers, electricians or a remodel, closed up and ready for paint.
- High and vaulted ceilings: repairs above stairwells and two-story entries, done safely with the right ladders.
- Paint to finish: we’re painters first, so the repair is primed and painted to match, not left as a white square.
Most drywall repairs end with paint, so we often do the whole wall, ceiling or room at the same time. See our interior painting page, or our winter interior special if you book by December 15 and start by the end of February.
Popcorn Ceiling Removal (Asbestos Test First)
Popcorn (acoustic) ceilings were common in homes from the 1950s into the 1980s, and many from those years contain asbestos. You can’t tell by looking. Washington law (RCW 49.26.013) requires a good-faith asbestos inspection by an accredited inspector before renovation work that could disturb asbestos, and scraping a popcorn ceiling is exactly that kind of work.
So we never scrape first and ask later. Here’s how popcorn ceiling removal works with us:
- We set up the asbestos test. We arrange a certified inspector to sample the ceiling. The inspector’s fee is yours, and we’ll tell you up front.
- Results before any scraping. If the test comes back clean, we schedule the removal. If it finds asbestos, removal has to be done by a certified asbestos abatement contractor, and we’ll walk you through your options honestly.
- Seal off the room. Floors, walls, vents and anything left in the room are covered in plastic.
- Remove the texture. The popcorn is softened and scraped off, then bagged and cleaned up.
- Smooth, prime and paint. The ceiling is repaired and skimmed where needed, primed, and painted for a clean, modern, flat ceiling.

Drywall Repair and Popcorn Ceiling Questions
How much does drywall repair cost?
It depends on the size and number of repairs, whether it’s a wall or a high ceiling, and how much painting is needed to make it disappear. Text us a photo for a quick idea, or we’ll give you an exact written price after a free walkthrough. Have a lower written quote for the same work? We’ll match it.
Can you fix a water-damaged ceiling?
Yes, once the leak itself is fixed. We cut out drywall that’s soft or sagging, replace it, seal any stains with a stain-blocking primer so they don’t come back through the paint, and paint the ceiling to match.
Will I be able to see where the drywall was patched?
Not when it’s done right. The patch is feathered out in thin coats, sanded, primed and painted. Often we paint the whole wall or ceiling so the color and sheen match edge to edge.
Does my popcorn ceiling have asbestos?
It might. Many popcorn ceilings put up before the mid-1980s contain asbestos, and you can’t tell by looking. The only way to know is a lab test of a sample taken by an accredited inspector, which we set up before any removal.
Do you do the asbestos testing for popcorn ceilings?
We arrange it for you with a certified inspector, and you pay the inspector’s fee. Washington law requires that inspection before renovation work that could disturb asbestos, so we never skip it.
Do you paint after drywall repair?
Always. We’re a painting company, so every repair is primed and painted to match. We can paint the rest of the room at the same time too.
