How We Paint a House Exterior

  1. Estimate, colors and scheduling. Start with the instant online estimate. We walk the house with you, confirm the price, help with colors (and HOA approval if you need it), and book dry-weather dates.
  2. Wash. Pressure washing removes dirt, mildew and moss so paint can bond to the surface instead of the grime.
  3. Repair and prep. Loose and peeling paint is scraped and sanded, damaged siding or trim is repaired, gaps are caulked, and bare wood is primed.
  4. Protect. Windows, doors, lights, decks and landscaping are covered before any paint goes on.
  5. Paint. Body, trim, doors and details with Sherwin-Williams exterior coatings, applied in the right weather for the paint to cure.
  6. Walkthrough. You hear from us every day of the job. At the end we walk the house together and touch up anything you point out.

Paint and Stain Made for PNW Weather

As a Sherwin-Williams PRO+ contractor, we use premium exterior lines such as Duration and Emerald, including Emerald Rain Refresh, a self-cleaning exterior paint that helps rain wash dirt away. For wood, we use stains like SuperDeck and Woodscapes. These products come with a factory-backed warranty, so if the paint itself fails, it’s on the manufacturer, not just our word.

When to Paint Your Exterior Here

Exterior paint needs dry surfaces and mild temperatures to cure, so in Snohomish and King County most exterior work happens from about May through September. The best spots on the calendar go first, so the smartest time to get your estimate is late winter or early spring. In the rainy months, we handle interiors, cabinets and gutter and moss cleaning.

What Affects the Cost of Exterior Painting

  • The size and height of the house (one story, two stories, steep lots)
  • How much washing, scraping, repair and priming the surfaces need
  • Siding type and the amount of trim and detail
  • Color changes, especially dark to light
  • Add-ons like fences, decks, sheds or siding repairs

Exterior Painting Questions

What happens if it rains during my exterior paint job?

We schedule around the forecast and only paint when surfaces are dry and the weather lets the paint cure. If rain moves in, we pause outdoor painting and pick back up when it’s dry, and we’ll keep you updated every day.

Do I need to be home while you paint the outside?

No. As long as we can get to the outside of the house, you can go about your day. We’ll walk through the plan with you at the start and send you an update every day.

Can you fix damaged siding or trim before painting?

Yes. We repair and replace damaged siding and trim as part of the job, so you don’t need a separate contractor and the paint goes on a solid surface.

Will you help with HOA color approval?

Yes. Check your HOA’s guidelines first, and we’ll put large Sherwin-Williams samples on your siding so you can choose colors and include them with your request.

How much does exterior house painting cost?

It depends on the size of the house, the prep needed, the siding and trim, and any add-ons. Our instant online estimate gives you a ballpark in about a minute, and a free walk-through gives you the exact price. We match written competitor quotes for the same work.
